Hi Michelle, Currently, I'm the distance learning coordinator at my school. I set-up videoconferences and activities with museums for my teachers. We usually do point to point (direct IP -- H.323) videoconferencing. Linda

Michelle, Do you have anything special in mind for the project? Do you want to meet and share books, writing, local communities? Linda McDermon

Hi Jessica, We are thinking of applying for a VJ spot -- never done that before, but we have a few students who may do really well. Do you accept VJ's outside of your network for PPS Mega?

IVC Room Set-up

We are changing our room, within the bounds of a 15 x 20 ft. space, to show more about our location in the world. Our sign, only a painted bulletin board background, has our school name, town, & state. Underneath it is a small table with items from our county. Things that might be recognized by others, such as Krispy Kreme donuts, and items from Old Salem. Winston-Salem, about 2 miles from Rural Hall, is the home of krispy Kreme. It also was the original home of RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company,… Continue

RAP - Read Around the Planet

We completed our final RAP this week. What fun! I'll try to add some of the photos this weekend. During the second scheduled week of RAP, we had an unusual 6 inch snow on Monday so we were out of school for two days. We rescheduled our final three RAP's for this week and they were fantastic! We had two first grade classes on Monday and a fourth grade class on Wednesday. The students enjoyed the presentations and conversations. More later.

Megaconference Jr. 2009

February 19, 2009 -- Wow! What a great day! Our students watched, interacted, and presented at Megaconference Jr. this year and had a lot of fun while learning, collaborating, participating, creating movies, and celebrating with a pizza party after their presentation. If you participated in Megaconfernce Jr., share what you watched, or interacted with, or presented. The students and teachers enjoyed this project so much, we are already talking about what we can do next year.

New Codec & New Experiences

We ordered, received, and installed our new codec. It's a Tandberg Edge95. We hope to add our own hosting conferences in the future when we move into a new building. We continue to use the wonderful services of our state museums, the NC Museum of History and the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, along with the NC School of Science & Math, and NC Wildlife Resources. These wonderful free programs are directly tied to the NC Standard Course of Study and offer our students many exciting experiences… Continue

New Codec

We have used a Polycom Viewstation FX for the past six years. Is has served us well. We recently purchased a Tandberg codec to replace our Polycom as our district now supports Tandbergs. We have a full schedule and are excited about our new capabilities. We will be able to host our own multi-site programs in the future. Currently, our building is scheduled to be replaced, and we will have a separate room for videoconferencing, not the end of the computer lab. We can better serve our students wit… Continue

Hi Linda,
We have a Polycom 8000 and a 7000 unit that we use for vendor programming and we provide Chinese instruction to other schools in our IU. We have done some collaborations and participated in Megaconference Jr. and Read Around the Planet. We also do programs with MAGPI and I was a MAGPI Fellow this past year. We are looking to do more collaborative programming this school year with locations anywhere in the world.

Our project began as a partnership with Barrow County Schools (in Georgia). We're getting ready to work with several other districts (also in Georgia) in the new school year. Also we'll be hosting an astronomy class with children from Abbotsleigh school in Sydney, Australia. They will look through our telescope live over the network during their school day but when it is dark in Atlanta.

Hi Linda.

I'm an ex-teacher, working with teachers across Wales. We work primarily with secondary schools (11-18) FE colleges (16+) and universities (18+), but we do have a few primary(3-11) schools that we work with - and the primary sector is increasing all the time. Our primary schools are mainly small schools in rural mid Wales.

I would be happy to help you link with a primary school in Wales. Do you have an idea of what you would lke to do?

Hi Linda, I am not a teacher myself but work in a support role for a number of universities, schools and colleges in Wales. I work for the Welsh Video Network. If you are looking for opportunities to collaborate then you might find our pages of interest: www.wvn.ac.uk (contact one of our education people) - there is also www.janetcollaborate.ac.uk -which is a great way fo finding opportunities in the UK.

Hi Linda,
Well Sally and I are trying to get our staff to approve the videoconferencing so we can begin getting it setup this summer and ready to go next fall. You have been a big help. I may be talking with you! Thanks
